Top of the pagefunds help support community outreach projects, such as heart models for local schools, exhibits for Working Wonders Children's Museum, Central Oregon's first and only children's museum, and athletic screenings for student athletes at high schools in Central and Eastern Oregon. The Heart Institute of the Cascades underwrites the cost of electrocardiogram (EKG) and limited echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) screenings for participating students. The tests are able to detect some of the heart problems that can lead to sudden death in young people, particularly young athletes.
