ASCEND STUDY:

Description: This study is being done to find out if the drug that is being researched, nesiritide, as compared to placebo (dummy pill or an inactive substance which looks like the real drug), plus the usual treatment for ADHF(Acute decompensated heart failure- a condition in which the heart cannot perform the necessary circulation of blood through the body)helps:
* improve breathing difficulties
* reduce the chance that patients will be
readmitted to the hospital
* patients live longer
Nesiritide is a drug that is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for intravenous treatment of patients with ADHF.
