CURRENT STUDY:

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Bruce A. McLellan, MD

Description: The purpose of this clinical research study is to evaluate whether a higher dosage of clopidogrel in combination with aspirin will lead to further decrease in the risks of ischemic complications (i.e. cardiac death, stroke and myocardial infarction) in patients presenting with Non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome with intent to perform Percutaneous Coronary Intervention. Two different ranges of doses of aspirin will also be evaluated to see if a higher dosage will lead to decrease in the risks of ischemic complications in comparison to a lower dosage.

Clopidogrel and aspirin are both oral drugs, which help to stop the clumping together of platelets (particles in blood that help form clots) through different mechanisms, so that the blood clot formation can be prevented. Clopidogrel in combination with aspirin has been already widely used in patients with this type of medical condition in several clinical studies and have been recommended for use according to the medical guidelines.
